Tension is who you think you should be. Relaxation is who you are.
- Chinese proverb
Here at Absolute Wellness Center in Mt. Pleasant, we offer a variety of techniques including:
Hot stone massage
Deep tissue massage
We are one of the few massage therapy centers in the greater Charleston area that can treat real musculoskeletal issues and provide lasting relief in addition to helping you relax. This relief often comes through using massage therapy in conjunction with chiropractic care.
Depending on your plan and coverage, massage therapy may be covered by insurance when coordinated as part of chiropractic care.
Massage therapy complements chiropractic care
Massage therapy has a profound effect on your body’s nervous system and is an extremely effective complement to chiropractic care. When it activates your body’s parasympathetic nervous system, it counteracts your body’s negative response to stress, relaxes muscle tension and allows your heart rate, blood pressure and circulation to return to normal.
Massage therapy helps you become more aware of your body and your unconsciously held tension. It also supports chiropractic adjustments by addressing the muscular component of your alignment issue, allowing for a longer lasting adjustment and extended relief.
Different techniques address different issues in the body. If you are unsure which technique is right for you, please call our Mt. Pleasant office at (843) 416-8218 and we’ll be happy to speak with you and determine which technique is right for you. Swedish massage is a relaxing, full-body massage designed to reduce muscular tension and relieve stress. It involves light, soft strokes on the topmost layers of muscle and is most effective for promoting relaxation. This technique is best for those seeking a lighter touch.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage works best for treating specific “trouble spots.” The therapist uses deliberate, focal strokes to address deeper layers of muscles, tendons and ligaments. Though less fluid then other types of massage, deep tissue work can be great for treating muscle spasm and altering chronic poor muscle patterns. This technique is best for those with chronic areas of tension who prefer a firmer touch.
While sports massages can vary on techniques employed, they are custom designed for your specific sports needs and the muscles most used during play. Sports massage can be used to promote flexibility, prevent injuries, help muscle strains, and speed healing after injuries occur. This technique is best for recovering athletes or those wishing to improve their game.
During pregnancy, your body goes through major changes. As weight gain increases, the low back arches forward, putting extra pressure on the spine, muscles, and ligaments and forcing them to work harder to accommodate the baby’s growth. Massage helps relieve these overworked structures, helps decrease arm and leg swelling, and is particularly useful during a time when medical options are limited. This is a great technique for women in their 2nd and 3rd trimesters.
Pregnancy is also a great time to be receiving regular chiropractic adjustments, which can create more room for the fetus to grow and ensure that all reproductive organs are functioning optimally.
Neuromuscular therapy is a form of massage that aims to address the underlying causes of chronic pain. This medically oriented therapy addresses trigger points, circulation, nerve compression, postural issues, and biomechanical dysfunction that are often caused by repetitive motion injuries. Neuromuscular therapy is extremely effective when used in conjunction with chiropractic care. This technique is best for clinical issues and addressing health issues.
