Your spine: The focus of chiropractic care

As chiropractors, we focus primarily on the spine because it houses the nervous system. Any shift in the alignment of your spine creates pressure and irritation of the nerves at that spinal level. These nerves go to every organ, tissue and cell in your body, which is why the effects of chiropractic adjustments can reach far beyond the spine. Neural compromise can occur anywhere in the body, which is why we treat your whole body. Any time your nervous system is not functioning optimally, dysfunction can happen in any of the systems of your body (cardiovascular, digestive, respiratory, reproductive, etc.). This is why patients notice improved sleep, better digestion, allergy relief and more as additional side effects of their care.

Safe, effective, natural treatment

The word “chiropractic” comes from the Greek words cheir (hand) and praxis (action) and literally means “done by hand.” Instead of prescribing drugs or performing surgeries, chiropractors use manual treatments of the spine to alleviate pressure on the spinal nerves, thereby affecting everything those nerves innervate. They may also utilize exercises, massage, nutritional and lifestyle changes to allow the body’s natural state of health to fully express itself. All of these therapies aim to reduce stresses on the nervous system, the most important system of the body.

Numerous studies have demonstrated that chiropractic care is one of the most safe and effective treatments for:

  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Headaches
  • Whiplash
  • Scoliosis
  • Sports injuries
  • Many other types of musculoskeletal problems

Complete holistic healthcare

Chiropractic is so much more than treatment for pain, injuries or accidents. Ultimately, the goal of the chiropractic treatment is to restore the body to its natural state of optimal health. This is achieved not only through manipulation, but through nutritional healing, restorative exercise, and even increased awareness of how we live, feel and move on a daily basis. The body has a remarkable ability to maintain and heal itself; chiropractic simply removes the interferences that stifle the body’s natural healing ability.

Dr. Susan Doyle not only provides chiropractic care to others, but receives it herself. Here’s what she has to say about how it has improved her life:

“As a lifetime recipient of chiropractic care, I know what an incredible difference it can make in your health. When I was younger, it gave me years of athletic experiences that I would not have otherwise had. Growing older, it allows me an active lifestyle that is fundamental to my identity. If I can extend that experience to others and help them live their lives more fully, then my goals are met.”
